Bring Me The Horizon - sTraNgeRs Introduction
Bring Me The Horizon are back again with another beautifully created song and accompanying video. Their first non-collaborative record since September 2021, and the wait is thankfully over. For weeks they have been teasing the release of 'sTraNgeRs' through social media, and finally, after a few surprise showcases of the track, it is here. The new song reached over three-quarters of a million views on the first day, and after viewing the piece, one phrase stuck in my head, mindbending.
The 3.24-minute video is fast-paced, gritty, dark, and exciting. It gives off a Marilyn Manson - Beautiful People vibe with its rapid changes, color scheme, and disturbing depiction of the human form. Using the lyrics below, we will analyze some underlying themes and establish what we can expect from the new album following that snippet.
Let's look at the lyrics without any more introduction and see what we can decipher.
Bring Me The Horizon - sTraNgeRs Lyrics
[Verse 1]
Maybe I'll just be fucked up forever
Should have figured myself out by now
And I don't want to tear myself open, no
But it's hard to care when you bleed out
[Pre-Chorus]
So won't you break me down, break me down
Make me get better
I confess I'm a mess, some kind of error
Well maybe I was destined to disappear
[Chorus]
We're just a room full of strangers
Looking for something to save us
Alone together, we're dying to live and we're living to die
Dying to live, living to die
We're just a room full of strangers
[Verse 2]
Well I guess my guardian angel missed the memo
'Cause we're walking on razors again
And we swore to God we'd never let this happen, no
We've dragged ourselves through hell and we'll be damned if we go back
[Pre-Chorus]
Break me down, break me down, make me get better
I confess that I'm a mess, some kind of error
Well maybe I was destined to disappear
[Chorus]
We're just a room full of strangers
Looking for something to save us
Alone together, we're dying to live and we're living to die
Dying to live, living to die
It never stops, can't erase this
So cross out my eyes, tear the pages
'Cause you and I we're just dying to live and we're living to die
Dying to live, living to die
It never stops, it don't
[Bridge]
Where did we go?
We're all alone, all alone
No place like home
Take us back to yesterday
S.O.S
Save us from ourselves
[Chorus]
We're just a room full of strangers
Looking for something to save us
Alone together, we're dying to live and we're living to die
Dying to live, living to die
It never stops, can't erase this
So cross out my eyes, tear the pages
'Cause you and I we're just dying to live and we're living to die
Dying to live, living to die
We're just a room
We're just a room
We're just a room full of strangers
Bring Me The Horizon - sTraNgeRs Overview
Straight out of the gate, we get an idea of where this album is heading. And at Curtain Drawn Summer, we could not be more excited. DiE4u felt like a resurgence in emo music, and following the release of sTraNgeRs, that feeling solidifies. The lyrics feature references to bleeding, dying, razor blades, and all the fun stuff the alternative crowd knows and loves. However, in true Bring Me The Horizon fashion, it is still a track that is uplifting.
One fantastic theme peppered throughout BMTH's work is the sense of collective struggle. We see this again in sTraNgeRs; it seems to highlight that, especially with the phrase "Alone together." Furthermore, it is identifying that the crushing sense of being alone is shared; this gives a spin of hopefulness to the song. Lyrically Bring Me The Horizon can transcend some of the darkest times their audience is experiencing into brighter days. They do this through honesty in their songwriting; they continuously depict what, as an audience, we are going through—creating positivity in their community of fans.
sTraNgeRs now feels like it will be a great addition to BMTH's already impressive discography. We cannot wait for the release of the new album if the two songs we have heard are anything to go on.
